The world-famous Navagio Beach in the Northwest of the Island is an absolute must. The Small Bay with the Rusty Shipwreck, Surrounded by Metre-High Rocks and Turquoise Blue Water, offers a unique panorama. You can only reach the bay by boat, but the view is worth the effort. For the best view, we recommend taking the hiking trail to the viewing platform — you're guaranteed to get the best postcard design here.
In 2024, the viewpoint is unfortunately closed for the shipwreck. The Wreck can currently only be viewed from the water. You can either rent your own boat or book a guided tour to see the shipwreck.
The Blue Caves in northeast Zakynthos are an impressive natural wonder. These Caves Shimmer in Various Shades of Blue and Can Only Be Reached by Boat You can even swim through some caves, which is an unforgettable experience. Especially in the summer months, the sea is calm and safe for exploring the caves.
The capital Zakynthos offers a fascinating mix of history and culture. Visit Dionysos Solomos Square, St. Nicholas Church, and the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art. After the strong earthquake of 1953, much was reconstructed, but the city has retained its Venetian charm. A stroll through the narrow streets and along the harbor promenade is an absolute must.
The small village of Keri in the West of the Island impresses with its originality and peace. In the Midst of Olive Groves, You'll Find Picturesque Houses and Narrow Streets. Visit Panagia Keriotissa Church and Keri Lighthouse, which offers breathtaking views of Keri Bay. It is particularly romantic here at sunset.
The Keri Caves in southwest Zakynthos are another highlight. These sea caves are only accessible by boat and offer great opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and diving. A boat trip through the caves and under the rock gates is an unforgettable experience.
The charming village of Bochali is located above Zakynthos Town. From here, you have a wonderful view of the city and Argasi Bay. A stroll through the romantic alleys and a visit to the dilapidated Venetian Castle are particularly worthwhile in the evening when the city is bathed in a sea of lights.
Marathonisi, also known as Turtle Island, is the ideal place to watch the Caretta Caretta Turtles. The island itself is easily accessible by boat from Zakynthos. The trip there is already an experience in itself, as you drive along the picturesque coast. The island consists of two main parts, the North and South Islands, which are connected by a narrow sandbar. Visitors can land at one of the two beaches to explore the island and maybe even see a turtle on the beach. There is no infrastructure such as hotels or restaurants on Marathonisi, which contributes to its pristine charm.
Unfortunately, we were not lucky to spot the turtles on Marathonisi during our visit. In return, we were able to see countless of these fascinating animals on nearby Cameo Island and even snorkel with them. Most visitors come to Marathonisi to experience nature in its purest form and watch the turtles in their natural habitat. It is important not to disturb animals or enter their nesting sites as they can easily be disturbed by human activity.
Xigia Beach, also known as Spa or Wellness Beach, is another special place in Zakynthos. In This Bay, there is natural sulfur in the sea, which makes the skin nice and supple when bathing. But you have to make do with the slightly putrid smell. Well, you know: If you want to be beautiful, you have to suffer! You can reach the beach via a steep staircase in Xigia Bay in northern Zakynthos.
Laganas is the heart of Zakynthos nightlife. The Town has developed along the main road that leads to the sea and offers countless bars, clubs and restaurants. Here you can party until the early hours of the morning. Laganas Beach is also worth a visit, especially if you love water sports such as volleyball and scuba diving. Many boat trips to Marathonisi Turtle Island and Keri Caves also start from here.
Cameo Island is a small, private island paradise that you can reach via a wooden bridge from Laganas. This idyllic island is known for its breathtaking sunsets and romantic atmosphere. Weddings and events often take place here. In addition to the Peaceful Surroundings, Crystal-Clear Water and Magnificent Views of Zakynthos's Coast, Cameo Island also offers the opportunity to watch countless turtles in their natural habitat. With a bit of luck, you can even snorkel with these fascinating animals, just like we did on our trip. A visit to Cameo Island is a highlight for anyone who loves romance, natural beauty, and encounters with sea turtles.
If you prefer something a bit quieter and more idyllic, Zakynthos has many opportunities to find hidden bays and beaches. One example is Porto Limnionas in the West of the Island. To reach the fantastically beautiful and idyllic bay, you must first pass through the mountain village of Agios Leon. There you'll find rustic signs that lead you to the beach. “Beach” is perhaps the wrong word here, because instead of wide strips of sand and gently sloping water, there are only rocks and direct access to the deep blue. Simply unique!
Renting your own boat is a very special experience in Zakynthos. In Greece, you can even drive small boats without a license, giving you the freedom to explore the coast and hidden bays at your own pace. We recommend renting a boat at Keri Beach and visiting Marathonisi Island and the impressive Keri Caves from there. You should definitely drive to the Mycithres, where you can dock. This place is one of the most beautiful places we have built in Zakynthos.
Probably the most beautiful tour with your own boat is in the northeast of the island. From Porto Vromi, there are many providers who can take you to the legendary shipwreck in just 15 minutes. Especially in 2024, the Shipwreck Tour is highly recommended, as the Waterway is currently the only way to see the famous Shipwreck. You can get there either with your own boat or as part of a guided tour. As all other accesses are blocked, a boat trip from Porto Vromi is the ideal option for an unforgettable experience.
