Are you planning a vacation in Indonesia and are in the mood for a little adventure away from all the hustle and bustle? Then the Komodo Island Tour is perfect for you. Komodo Island is known for its breathtaking nature and the unique Komodo Dragons, the largest lizard species in the world. We have opted for a tour via STA Travel and have summarized the trip and all our highlights for you in this blog.
Our adventure began on the bustling island of Gili Trawangan. Here we met with our tour group for the next 5 days and took a boat to Kuta Lombok.
Good to know: Kuta Lombok is a beautiful place on the south coast of Lombok known for its breathtaking beaches and crystal clear water. In contrast to Bali, it is quieter and less touristy, making it a perfect destination for travelers who want to enjoy Indonesia's natural beauty in peace and quiet.
Our first stop was an impressive waterfall hidden in the thick forests of Lombok. The refreshing water and natural beauty of the place were a perfect start to our trip.
We then explored a traditional village, where we could experience the culture and way of life of the locals up close and could even try on traditional clothes.
In the afternoon, we relaxed on a beautiful beach. If you wanted to, you could also rent a surfboard and ride on the waves for a bit.
The next morning, we continued our journey to Sumbawa. This lesser-known island impressed us with its pristine nature. Here we had the opportunity to get to know the local culture even more intensively and spend a few relaxing hours on the beach.
A day trip took us to Moyo Island. The Island Impressed Us with Crystal Clear Water and a Rich Underwater World. But the real highlight was our little adventure trip deep into the jungle. There we visited a hidden, crystal-clear lake surrounded by thick vegetation. We swung down from a cliff with a rope and plunged into the refreshing water. This experience, in the midst of the pristine nature of Moyo Island, made this day a special highlight of our trip.
From Sumbawa, we started our exciting 2-day boat tour, which took us to some of the most spectacular places in the region.
Our home for the next two days...
Our first stop was Satonda Island, known for its Saltwater Lake in an Old Volcanic Crater. Here we went on a short hike and took a dip in the lake. The Lake was created by the eruption of the neighboring Tambora Volcano in 1815 and therefore offers a fascinating mix of history and nature.
Another memorable experience was swimming with Majestic Manta Rays and Huge Turtles in the Open Sea. These encounters in their natural habitat were absolutely magical.
Pink Beach, with its unique pink sand, was another highlight. The unusual sand gets its color from a mixture of white sand and red coral fragments washed in by the sea. We spent the afternoon snorkeling and relaxing on this surreal beach.
While climbing Padar Island, we probably enjoyed the most impressive view of our trip. From above, we had a breathtaking view of the surrounding bays and beaches, which stretched out in various shades of blue and green. The island is known for its distinctive hills and unique landscape with beaches in various shades, including white, black and pink sand.
One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to Pica Island, where we saw the famous Komodo Dragons in their natural habitat. These fascinating animals, known for their size and unique appearance, really impressed us. It was a special experience to see these lizards up close and learn more about their behavior and way of life.
Another highlight of our boat trip was definitely the incredible Starry Sky. At night, far from any light pollution, we had a breathtaking view of the stars and were even able to spot some shooting stars.
Our trip ended in Labuan Bajo, a picturesque coastal town with a beautiful beach. From here, we finally flew back to Bali, full of unforgettable new memories and moments for life.
You can also book this tour directly on site and save money as a result. Good spots for this include the Gili Islands or Lombok.
There are different starting points for the tour. The main starting point for the Komodo Island tour is Labuan Bajo. From here, you can even simply take a day trip to the Komodo Dragons. Other well-known starting points, which usually include a longer tour, are the Gili Islands or Bali. As with us, these tours usually cover several islands. This is how it goes via Lombok to Sumbawa and from there on the boat.
PS: If you like being on the boat, that's definitely an advantage;)
