Your trip to Bali - This place suits you best

Bali is an oasis of freedom, culture, and endless adventures for backpackers. In recent years, This Enchanting Island has experienced real hype and rightly so. But the question remains: Where is the best place to stay in Bali? This post gives you an overview of the various places in Bali. In this way, you can use the descriptions to find out which location best suits your travel style and thus get the most out of your Bali adventure.

The South of Bali - Capital, Beaches, Cliffs, Surfing Spots and Temples

The tourist and economic heart of the island is vibrant in southern Bali. A plethora of first-class hotels, the capital, fantastic beaches and everything you need for an unforgettable vacation await you here.

Denpasar - Chaos and Culture

Denpasar, the capital of Bali with around 900,000 inhabitants, acts as the political and economic heart of the island. Denpasar Convey's typical city vibes. It's hectic, loud and there is definitely total traffic chaos here. This location may not necessarily be ideal for the typical two-week holiday tourist, but it offers a worthwhile experience for a trip of one to several days. The Bajra Sandhi Monument and the “Pasar Badung” and “Pasar Kumbasari” markets are particularly worthwhile here.

But which beach is the most beautiful in the south?

Sanur - Denpasar city beach

Sanur, the beach area southeast of Denpasar in Bali, is known for its beautiful sandy beach, which is ideal for family swimming due to the shallow water and low swell. There are numerous magnificent hotel complexes along the coast, which more than meet the needs of package tourism. Sports Enthusiasts therefore wants to find the best conditions here. Whether you're diving, jogging, surfing or yoga, you can really work yourself out here. In the evening, the lively night market attracts visitors with a variety of local delicacies at reasonable prices.

Kuta - Surfing Fun and Nightlife

Kuta, on the southwest coast of Bali, is a hotspot for travelers and is particularly popular with young people because of its great surfing conditions and lively nightlife. Kuta is located about 10 kilometers from the capital Denpasar and actually has the reputation of the most beautiful beach in Bali. You're definitely in good hands here if you're in the mood for surfing, shopping or nightlife. Poppies Streets, particularly Poppies One and Two, are arguably the most famous and popular roads in the area. If you are in the mood for a lively holiday with diverse contacts, vibrant nightlife and a beautiful beach, then Kuta is just the thing for you!

PS. This place is great as a first stop after a long flight, as it is very easy to reach from the airport and there are plenty of accommodation.

Legian: Away from the Hustle and Bustle

Legian is located on the West Coast of Bali, North of Kuta, and is a popular beach area that tourists like to visit for a relaxing time. The plethora of restaurants and shops in Legian can certainly keep up with Seminyak and Kuta. It is therefore not surprising that the region is similarly popular with tourists. In Legian, however, there is a clear difference: The busy road has disappeared, resulting in a more relaxed atmosphere. It is also much quieter on the beach, so you can relax there undisturbed. Legian is definitely a quieter alternative to Kuta, although the beach is actually just as nice. So if you'd rather spend your vacation a bit more comfortably and quietly on the beach, then Legian is the right place for you.

Semyniak - Exclusive bathing fun

Seminyak, a residential and tourist area on the west coast of Bali, is located about 20 minutes by car north of Denpasar. You're in good hands here if you like luxury around you and are looking for stylish boutiques and upscale restaurants. In recent years, Seminyak has changed a lot, from a traditional village to a modern city full of luxury. Compared to Europe, however, this luxury is affordable. Whether for a honeymoon or simply a luxurious vacation, Seminyak is sure to meet your needs.

Canggu - Paradise for Yogis

Canggu is a charming little village with a unique flair that has seen a real boom in recent years. It mainly attracts surfers, yogis and hipsters, perhaps thanks in part to the movie “Eat Pray Love.” Trendy restaurants offering healthy cuisine and cozy cafés are sprouting up everywhere, which delights vegans and vegetarians in particular. But the boom also has its downside: Construction activity is increasing and the traditional rice fields are slowly disappearing. Nevertheless, Canggu retains a relaxed charm that is particularly noticeable compared to the overcrowded southern beaches. The beauty of the sea, the beach and the sunsets is simply incomparable and represents the true Bali.

Nusa Dua - Luxury on bright beaches

Nusa Dua is one of the absolute top travel destinations in Bali. It is known for package holidays with relaxing beach holidays. Extensive luxury hotels are lined up along the coast. The bright sand, shady palm trees and crystal-clear water guarantee a pure holiday feeling. As in Semyniak, luxury is offered here for little money. This location is ideal for honeymoons who want a few days of luxury and relaxation, for families with children who want a beach with little swell and for anyone who wants to be near the airport after arrival or before departure and want to take it easy. Our favorites in the south

Ubud - Rice Terraces and Culture

Ubud is the cultural center of Bali, vibrant and full of life. The City is surrounded by Monkey Forests, Temples and Picturesque, Lush Rice Terraces. There are plenty of sights and discoveries to make in and around Ubud. Many of the historic palaces have now been converted into beautiful hotels that convey the authentic feel of old Bali. Ubud is definitely touristy, but we had the feeling that we could still feel and absorb the whole culture really well. Ubud really captivated us, we would spend a vacation here again at any time.

PS: Especially our accommodation, the Ulun Ubud Resort was just a dream and we would recommend it to everyone.

Uluwatu - Cliffs and Culture

Uluwatu simply enchanted us with its breathtaking cliffs and views. Here you can watch fantastic sunsets and discover first-class surfing spots. The famous Uluwatu Temple, which is perched high on the cliffs and offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, was very special for us. In addition to its impressive natural beauty, Uluwatu is also known for its vibrant culture and traditional kecak dance performances, which take place every evening at sunset. For travelers seeking adventure and relaxation, Uluwatu offers a perfect combination of exciting activities, natural beauty and culture.

The east of Bali - nature and idyll

In Eastern Bali, there are majestic volcanic craters at impressive heights, which still shape the landscape. Since the last eruption in 1963, these Volcanoes have destroyed numerous villages and left their mark. Yet the East Enchants with its idyllic beauty and abundance of natural sights. Here, visitors can enjoy the untouched nature to the fullest and are always warmly welcomed by the warm Balinese.

Candidasa - Secret Spot

Candidasa is located on the east coast of Bali in Teluk Amuk Bay and impresses with its green hills, palm trees and endless rice fields. Candidasa is a real secret tip for Bali holidaymakers, almost undetected by the masses. Picturesquely nestled in the wild nature of the east of the island, the town offers a paradise for relaxation seekers and active guests alike. Sun Worshippers, Divers, Hikers and Culture Lovers wants to find plenty of opportunities to pursue their interests in and around Candidasa. Although the coastal town is far away from the tourist centers of Bali, it is easily accessible thanks to its good infrastructure. Exotic Temples, Tropical Waterfalls and the Island's Majestic Volcanoes can be reached quickly thanks to easy access.

The North of Bali - Away from the Tourist Crowds

A completely different atmosphere awaits you in northern Bali than in the lively south — there is a noticeable peace and serenity here. Mysterious Mountains, Lakes, Volcanoes and Mystical Beaches give the North a unique flair. For active holidaymakers, the region also offers numerous hiking trails through picturesque villages and untouched landscapes.

Lovina

Lovina, located in the North of Bali, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and untouched regions of Bali and is particularly appreciated by experts on the island. Swimming with Dolphins is just one of the many attractions this area has to offer. Lovina has plenty of bars, restaurants and cafés where you can spend a pleasant evening. The sunset is a real highlight here, especially when you enjoy it with a delicious cocktail — it's the perfect end to an exciting day. If you're looking for peace and quiet, you've come to the right place. In contrast to the busy beaches in southern Bali, Lovina is much quieter. The Black Sand Beaches are unique and come from Volcanoes.

The West of Bali - The Unexplored Diamond

In Bali's Wild West, you'll experience a more pristine and much less touristy atmosphere compared to other parts of the island. Here, an extensive national park covers an enormous area, which appeals in particular to nature lovers. The special features of the national park are fascinating and definitely worth a visit. The West offers other highlights, but in general it is much quieter and more relaxed here than in the lively south.

pemuteran

This quiet fishing village is surrounded by mountains and offers beautiful sunsets. The Town is known for sustainable tourism projects such as coral farming and the Biorock Project. The relaxed atmosphere and nearby beaches make Pemuteran one of the most beautiful places in western Bali.

The neighboring islands of Bali

Lombok - The other Indonesia

Lombok, an island in Indonesia east of Bali and west of Sumbawa, is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Compared to Bali, tourism on Lombok is nowhere near as strong. The general price level and the cost of living, including food, are significantly lower. There are also kilometers of white sandy beaches here, which are often deserted and do not have large hotel complexes. The cultural differences are also noticeable. The everyday presence of Islam among the local Sasaks shapes life on the island. Lombok therefore offers an authentic experience that is different from Bali and shows travelers a different side of Indonesia. Not to forget the fantastic natural spectacles that you can visit from here.

PS: Komodo Island tours usually also start from here. If you are interested in how this tour works, be sure to read our article about it.

Gili Islands - Maldives with a hippie vibe

The Gili Islands are three small islands northwest of Lombok, which rise just a few meters out of the turquoise blue sea. On its picturesque shores, there are bright sandy beaches, lined with tall coconut trees, which stand out majestically against the sky. Depending on which island you are on, the soft sound of the waves is sometimes accompanied by the beats of the numerous beach bars. Relaxation, partying, water sports and yoga are possible on these dream islands. It is particularly fascinating that each of the three Gili Islands offers a unique atmosphere. Each island has its own charm, meaning that there is the perfect Gili Island for every holidaymaker.

PS: You can easily find out which Gili Island is best for you in this post.

Nusa Penida - Like Another World

Nusa Penida immediately enchanted us. It is a true paradise for adventurous travelers who long for pristine nature and breathtaking landscapes. The Island offers a unique backdrop of spectacular cliffs, hidden bays and turquoise waters that literally challenge exploration. For Lovers of Underwater Sports, Nusa Penida also offers fantastic diving and snorkeling opportunities with its colorful underwater world. Kelingking Beach, also known as T-Rex Beach, is particularly impressive due to its distinctive cliff formation, which is reminiscent of a T-Rex. Here, visitors can hike along the steep trails and enjoy breathtaking views of the white sandy beach and sparkling sea from above. Nusa Penida is a place that offers both adventure and relaxation and enchants every traveler with its natural beauty.

PS. You can take a day trip, but you don't have to (we're speaking from experience). If you can plan for a longer period of time, then we would recommend sleeping there at least one night to really take in all the charm of the island.
